Steve's
Custom Log Homes offers several choices of siding for rustic
mountain home designs. An old fashioned vertical board and
batten, an earthy cedar shake siding or bark edge slabs. We
also offer faux round log siding and a chinked siding for
the faux (i.e. imitation) hand hewn exterior. Faux sidings
give the appearance of rustic homes and may be applied to
conventionally constructed homes and cabins. |

Board & Batten Exterior SidingBoard and
batten exterior siding is vertical slats of board siding with the
battens, strips of wood covering seams, between each meeting of
board. These vertical board seams (joints) will not separate or
leave gaps with the batten strips. The natural expansion and
contraction of the wood through weather changes as well as the
natural drying process is already considered. The vertical boards
are available in several wood species. Call us for details. |

Cedar Shake SidingThis "sleeping porch"
is given an aged appearance with cedar shake siding. Cedar shakes
weather very well and have a uniquely rustic mountain look. It also
combines well with other exteriors. The "old timers" often
built homes in one type of construction and added sections to the
home as the needs of the family demanded and economy allowed. These
additions to the original rustic homes were constructed with varying
exterior sidings. |
|
Bark Edge Slab SidingBark edge siding can be
stained, painted or left in natural with a good exterior sealant.
The boards run horizontally and the bark edge is clearly visible on
the exterior of the home, cabin or commercial structure giving
unique character to your building project. |
Natural Bark Edge SidingBark edge siding can
give varying color and texture to your rustic mountain home
exterior. The species of wood selected as well as the finish can
give great variations. Clear finishes on natural wood will protect
the color and leaving the wood exposed to weathering will create a
completely different feeling and appeal. These natural wood photos
are representative of some of the possibilities. |

Authentic Log Exteriors and Faux Siding for Rustic
Mountain Home DesignThe appearance of a rustic mountain home
may also be achieved by various "faux" sidings. Authentic
log construction is identified by the corner dovetail or saddle
notch joinery. Faux sidings are quite different, however. A faux
siding may be used on a conventionally constructed home, cabin or
other structure to create the look of a rustic home exterior. Faux
sidings may also be used on the exterior walls of manufactured homes
(large or small), timber frame structures or other uniquely
constructed homes or cabins to achieve the look without the expense
of a new authentically log building project. We offer options to
accomodate every budget and design possibility that we can. |

Chinked Faux Siding for the Appearance of Hand Hewn Log
ConstructionThis faux siding imitates the look of a hand hewn
log home. We call this "chinked" siding. Chinked siding
fits in overlapping horizontal siding slats and is filled with a
mortar-sealant mixture to create the authentically log appearance to
a conventionally constructed home or cabin (or commercial structure
if desired).
Faux Log Siding for the Appearance of Round Log ConstructionA
round log faux siding imitates the look of traditonal round log
construction. A round log siding is shown below applied to the
exterior of a manufactured (mobile) home. |
